What is Eczema?

Eczema is chronic disease which can affect the skin. It can be due to some allergic reactions. There can be inflammation of skin due to eczema which can be complicated with intense itching and infection. This term is used for different types of skin inflammations. The most common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis although there are many other types as well. Atopic belongs to group of disease with inherited tendency to allergic conditions like hay fever and asthma. Contact eczema, nummular eczema, dyshidrotic eczema, stasis dermatitis, neurodermatitis and seborrheic eczema are other types of eczema. There can be itchy symptoms with atopic dermatitis. There can be swelling, redness, weeping and cracking with scratching. It can appear in children.

The affects of eczema are seen in both males and females. Normally it appears in infancy or childhood. It can be very difficult to stop the children from scratching when they have atopic dermatitis. It can be difficult to keep the skin of children moist and their environment free from allergens. You can be able to mange this condition by keeping short nails, having knowledge about allergic triggers and by keeping skin hydrated.

Skin care treatments and managing eczema

It seems that the major cause of atopic dermatitis is the heredity and environmental factors. It can be due to malfunction of immune system of the body which can create inflammation in the skin and it is called autoimmunity. It is created when body tissues react with each other. You can have some eczema treatment options to manage this condition. You can use steroids as medical treatment of eczema but it will be limited for only few weeks. The children should not use most potent steroids. The patients should be careful about using the steroids because there can be some side effects. You can use antibiotics and antimicrobial ointments. The skin creams should be removed with clean spoon and don’t use your hands.

It is very important for you to use the applications very carefully to control this condition. You should apply emollients to your skin thoroughly three to four times daily. The skin will remain moist and it will provide comfort to itching. You should use natural skin care products which don’t contain preservatives. You should not use creams and products containing fragrance. The fatty acids are not processed normally by the sufferers of eczema which can cause deficiency of gamma linolenic acid. You should not use detergents and soaps which can aggravate the condition. The skin should be kept hydrated with super moisturizing bath. You should not take shower with hot water and apply emollients after your bath. Itching, sweating, overheating are some common triggers for this condition. You should apply cold compresses to the affected skin areas. There can be allergens to environment of the patient and foods can be some other triggers. It is good idea to test the allergies for this condition. This condition can also be due to emotions and stress. There are different types of eczema like stasis dermatitis, congestion eczema and gravitational eczema.
