Skin and Aging

Aging human skin can be due to genetic makeup, environmental factors, nutrition and other factors but sun exposure is the greatest factor. You can compare it with areas of your skin with maximum sun exposure and the areas which don’t have sun exposure. It is predictable and progressive process which involves maturation of living organisms. Different people have different rates of aging. The outer skin layer can become thin with aging while many cell layers will remain unchanged. There will be decrease in pigment containing cells but melanocytes will increase in size. The aging skin can appear pale, thinner and translucent. There can be change in connective tissues with aging which is known as elastosis. It can produce hard leathery and weather beaten skin appearance.

The blood vessels can become fragile with aging which can lead to bleeding under skin, bruising and other such conditions. Less oil will be produced by sebaceous glands as you age. The subcutaneous fat layer of skin can become thin with aging due to which there can be more risk of skin injury. It will also reduce the ability to maintain temperature. The fat layer absorbs some medications and there will be change in the loss of these layers with these medications. Less sweat production in sweat glands is the serious issue of aging skin. You can be at risk of overheating and develop heat stroke. Aging can appear in different people at different rates. The aging process can be modified with lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and smoking and drinking.

Aging skin prevention

You can use anti aging products and cosmetic products to prevent damages from common premature aging causes.

The sun

The skin aging can be due to sun exposure and sun is the greatest enemy of skin. The wrinkles on your skin can develop due to sun. There can be increased risk of skin cancer due to blistering sunburns. The ultraviolet radiations can damage 90% of facial skin. There can be breakdown of skin fibers which can cause skin to lose its stretching ability. Elasticity loss and deepening of normal expression, yellowed, leathery, rough and spotted skin can happen due to sun exposure. You should out of the sun as much as possible. You can use sunscreens to protect yourself from UV rays. You should try to have minimum sun exposure between 10 a.m to 4 p.m. you can also use sunblocks.

Artificial Tanning

You can use artificial tanning to avoid yourself from UV light which can damage your skin cells. It can be good for you to use for the appearance and good condition of your skin as you age.

Sunglasses

You can protect your eyes from UV rays with the help of sunglasses. It can also provide protection to the tender skin of eyes by blocking UVA and UVB rays.

Stop smoking

You should stop smoking if you want to have no aging skin. There can be lines around lips due to repetitive mouth puffing on cigarette. The skin structure can be broken down due to free radicals from smoke and it can cause wrinkling and weakening of skin.

Healthy diet and exercise

You should eat healthy diet including vegetables, fruits, lean meats, fish, carbohydrates and starches. Regular exercise can also help you to overcome skin aging and you can improve your appearance.

Vitamins can supplements

You can take multivitamins containing vitamin C and vitamin E which can prevent damage from free radical molecules. You can also take supplements of zinc, selenium, vitamin A and alpha lipoic acid for your natural healthy body skin.

Aesthetic and cosmetic treatments

There are laser treatments for skin care available which can provide you new radical complexion. But you should be careful about these procedures. You can have softer and smootehr layer of skin with these treatments.
